Duck soup

Image
It isn't often you can watch a bonkers conspiracy theory evolve in real time.  Remember this? Trump was being hailed as the savior of cats and ducks, the ducks who were being abducted from the parks of Springfield, Ohio, and cooked by those sinister Haitian migrants.  It seemed odd that the duck and the cat were looking past each other but perhaps they were too surprised to react normally.  Trump dislikes animals, so maybe he was holding them too tightly. Within hours the victims were cats and dogs, an undisclosed number of them vanishing from the backyards or even the houses of terrified Real Americans.  By this time the origins of what would once have been called an urban myth were being uncovered -- a Facebook post rife with hearsay, a racist infiltrating a city council meeting.  Of course the story exploded when an actual presidential candidate, run ragged in a televised debate, began shouting, "They're eating the dogs and cats!"  Now where did th...

Season of the witch

He's not wrong about the Evangelicals.  Here is Texas pastor  Lance Wallnau  putting the blame squarely where it belongs:  "Occult empowered deception, manipulation and domination.  That's what ABC pulled off as moderators, and Kamala's script handlers set up the kill box.  One sided questions and fact checking sealed the box...something supernatural needs to disrupt this counterfeit momentum because the same public that voted in Obama is voting again and her deception is advancing."  Harris represents "the spirit of Jezebel in a way that will be even more ominous than Hillary because she'll bring a racial component and she's younger."  He goes on to compare Trump with King Cyrus, which has probably never happened before.   The dark arts are definitely at work, turning sister against sister.   Laura Loomer  tweeted that the White House would "smell like curry" if Harris wins, while her speeches would be "facilitated by a c...

No mas! No mas!

As my grandmother would say, she handed him his ass.  It was glorious. With occasional but devastating fact-checks by Linsey Davis and David Muir -- it can be done! -- Kamala Harris called out every lie in the time allotted and scored almost every point she needed.  Not only did he repeat the whopper about "executing the baby" after birth, he confused  Virginia with West Virginia.  He boasted of attending the Wharton School (where instructors thought he was an idiot) and she had to explain that high tariffs would be devastating for the American economy.  She poked him in his tenderest spot, his rallies.  ("We have the biggest rallies, the most incredible rallies in the history of politics.")  This led him to how only he can prevent World War III, which gave her the opening she needed:  "I have traveled the world as Vice President of the United States, and  world leaders are laughing  at Donald Trump...military leaders...say you'r...

Locker room talk

"You're the greatest debater in the world, sir, possibly the greatest of all time including the late, great Abe Lincoln.  There's no need for practice.  You'll handle the uppity woman the way you handled old Joe Biden, practically a vegetable like you said to Leon Musk.  Many people are saying she's too prepared and she has a weird laugh.  Not like yours.  In fact, no one has ever heard yours, it's too amazing for most people, they wouldn't recognize it.  You should get in some golf, maybe hit a couple of those hole-in-one things that you specialize in.  Then a nap and some of the special debate powder that young Donald dropped off." Don't let him watch television.  For God's sake, if he sees the new spot they made out of  Obama's  convention speech, where he does that thing with his hands, oh jeez, he'll take the place apart again.  He forgets he's almost eighty.  Ronny Jackson says his BP was off the charts.   If he...

The day America's brain broke

Image
I know, it could have been almost any day in the last nine years, but this one just feels special. What's unusual about Trump sending birthday greetings to the Virgin Mary?  Only that he didn't include "and to all Leftist Haters who want to destroy our wonderful Country by allowing millions of Criminals and Mental Patients to vote illegally and take over more States like Colorado."  He missed an opportunity there.  (This is not even a minor holiday.  The pope is in East Timor and even he didn't mention it.) Trump heard a bullshit story about a Venezuelan gang called  Tren de Aragua  taking over an apartment complex in Aurora and immediately began ranting (to some Wisconsin cheeseheads) that "radicals headed up by a radical governor" have "no clue" about how to solve this imaginary problem.  Also, it's "much worse in other states" (unspecified).  Then the line that caught everybody's attention:  "Getting them out will be ...

Donnie's day

What if Trump held a rally and only these people showed up? That could never happen.  His keepers would never let them in.  Maybe one, so he could sic the MAGAs on that person and then complain to the media about the near-assassination he faced down with so much courage, nobody has ever seen such courage before.   Trump was inside the courthouse babbling about how long he has been famous and how he and  Jessica Leeds  were "making out" on a plane ("groping" is the word she used) and how many women found him so irresistible that they lied about their encounters with him and how Leeds would not have been "the chosen one" because she's no Melania and on and on, just what your lawyers want to hear when they're breaking their backs to appeal your rape conviction.  Judge Merchan was probably right when he said this case is unique in both politics and jurisprudence and postponed sentencing until after the election.  Apart from considerations of pe...

Child care is child care

Image
The topic of the day was children and how to care for them, and J.D. Vance got the difficult part, explaining away the Apalachin High School shootings.  In  Phoenix  he said, "I don't like that this is a fact of life," which struck some people as callous.  His solution was to step up school security "so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children they're not able to."  But the alleged psycho was a student at Apalachin and had a right to be there.  What then?  Nobody asked.   Yes, school shooting is a fact of life. So is cancer, but if your doctor offers only thoughts and prayers you should find another doctor.  And if the second doctor urges you to "get over it" and "move forward," as  Trump  did last January after a school shooting in Perry, Iowa, you might wonder what the hell was wrong with oncology in this country.   At the  Economy Club yesterday, Trump was asked what...
