Mirror, mirror
NewsNation held a town hall with Chris Cuomo and J.D. Vance last night, and they took a phone call from a Mr. Trump:
Trump: "The answer should be easy: How brilliant is Donald J. Trump?"
Vance: "Well, first of all, sir, you're very brilliant. We both agree that it's important to have very smart people running our government."
But Senator Cushion-pushin' wasn't done abasing himself. In Michigan he was asked about General John Kelly's description of Trump's admiration for Hitler. "John Kelly was fired by Donald Trump and he's pissed off about it and he won't stop talking about it...even Mike Pence's chief of staff said that John Kelly is making up a bunch of crap about Donald J. Trump. So who do we believe?"
Clearly, we believe the "very brilliant" Trump over the four-star Marine general, a "disgruntled ex-employee." (Makes him sound like Anthony Scaramucci.) Also, Kamala Harris should stop referring to Kelly's remarks because grocery prices.
What did Trump mean when he talked about war with France? Grocery prices.
In Georgia, Harris was accompanied by Bruce Springsteen, who said, "I want a president who reveres the Constitution, who does not threaten but wants to protect and guide our great democracy." Trump's view of the country is somewhat different: "We're like a garbage can...every time I come up and talk about what they've done to our country, I get angrier and angrier. First time I've ever said 'garbage can,' but you know what? It's a very accurate description.
Trump likes to call Harris a communist, a socialist and a fascist because he has no idea what words mean. Abuse is abuse. This morning a MAGA named Tricia McLaughlin was on CNN to further muddy the waters. "Fascism is rooted in socialism," she informed Sara Sidner, "so we've got to get the definition correct because Donald Trump is by no means a socialist." Why does only one side need to get "definitions correct"? She didn't say, but since the Nazis were the National Socialist German Workers Party, they were socialists, right? We've been over this. They weren't socialists and they weren't the party of workers, who lost their unions and most of their rights as soon as Hitler became chancellor. Dachau, the first concentration camp, was built to hold socialists, communists and union leaders. Read a book, if you can. Hitler was a fascist like Trump.
And Callum Parslow. Who? you ask. Parslow says he was "exterminating the invasive species" when he repeatedly stabbed Nahom Hagos, an asylum seeker from Eritrea. He has now been convicted of attempted murder in Leicester, UK, because this poison is all over the place. Parslow has Hitler's signature tattooed on his arm, meaning he has more guts than Trump. He'll need them all in prison.
Are there any MAGA art critics? If so, one of them is probably objecting to the title of this bronze sculpture on the National Mall, The Resolute Desk. Because it's not a depiction of the Oval Office desk but the desk of Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The sculptor modestly (or prudently) is unidentified, but the plaque reads: "This memorial honors the brave men and women who broke into the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, to loot, urinate and defecate throughout those hallowed halls in order to overturn an election. President Trump celebrates these heroes of January 6th as 'unbelievable patriots' and 'warriors.' This monument stands as a testament to their daring sacrifice and lasting legacy." It only stands until October 30 so plan your visit accordingly. Kamala Harris's final campaign event will be held nearby next Tuesday.
The Washington Post has decided to follow the lead of the Los Angeles Times and wimp out, endorsing no one for president. Editorials editor Mariel Garza and two other members of the editorial board have resigned from the Times, as have over two thousand subscribers. Easy come, easy go for billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong. Hey, how about those Dodgers?
The Wall Street Journal reports that Soon-Shiong's old pal from South Africa Elon Musk -- small world, huh? -- who has all kinds of US security clearance, has been in regular contact with Vladimir Putin, and that Putin asked him not to activate Starlink satellite terminals over Taiwan as a special favor to another good buddy, Xi Jinping. Sanctions prevent Russia from buying Starlink terminals openly but somehow they get hold of them. Did I mention Musk's security clearance? President Biden? Hello?
