Someone had a very bad day

How do you get worse than denigrating the Medal of Honor and, when criticized by a retired general who used to be your chief of staff, do it again?

You go to Cochise County, Arizona, to demonstrate your toughness about fortifying the border and, on learning that police are hunting for an alleged assassin, suddenly end a NewsNation interview and scurry away ("We're in danger standing here talking").  Violence is not exciting when it might touch you.

You tell your new bestie the Daily Mail that you have declined to receive security briefings ("They come in, they give you a briefing, and then two days later they leak it and then they say you leaked it"), not caring how paranoid it makes you sound.  Also, the Daily Mail may not know that the Biden administration thought it best to cut you out three years ago.

You order someone to charge your phone and spend the night typing bizarre comments about Kamala Harris's acceptance speech.  Like "WHERE'S HUNTER?"  "SHE IS A RADICAL MARXIST!" and "TIM WALZ LET MINNESOTA BURN!" perhaps the first psychotic episode to be documented on social media.  "SHE HAS LED US INTO FAILING NATION STATUS!"  Remember, he now thinks Harris and Biden are the same person.  "IS SHE TALKING ABOUT ME?"  Is your name still Trump?  He even complained about the way she said "Thank you," a phrase he has never used.  Where's Hunter?  I don't know, maybe he's with Melania.

You call Fox News and free-associate about California, Charlottesville, why Walz should not be called "coach," "Project 25," and how great you're doing with every demographic.  After a while even Fox has enough and hangs up.   So you call Gutfeld! and babble some more.  Not at all sad.

Because you're still coming off the drug high, you call Newsmax and complain that Harris lied about you.  By now even Laura Loomer has climbed into her coffin.

I didn't notice this:

Yes, he went on Xwitter to tell his followers where to find the official Rant.  That's how few people are still bothering with Ministry of Truth Social, another Trump failure.

                                                                       **************

In contrast, the DNC started strong last Monday and ended even stronger, an accomplishment by itself.  There was a sense that they raced to get everyone in, with mixed results.  I would have cut a musical act to make space for Gloria Johnson, running for the Senate in Tennessee against Marsha Blackburn -- she needs the exposure.  There was no real need to bring on Adam Kinzinger.  But the exonerated Central Park Five reminded us that Trump has always been a racist thug.  The family of Brian Sicknick focused attention on the attempted coup.  Gaby Giffords's recovery has been remarkable, a tribute to her, her therapists and her husband Mark Kelly.  The wild reception for Elizabeth Warren reduced her to tears and she made a joke, too:  "Trust Trump and J.D. Vance to look out for your family?  Shoot, I wouldn't trust them to move my couch."* Maxwell Frost talked up climate change, even if the Washington Post chose to focus on his youth.

But Kamala Harris gave the acceptance speech everyone hoped for, and it wasn't even eleven o'clock.  She introduced herself, talked about her parents, and then ticked off the stuff people are wondering about -- the border, inflation, housing, drug costs, Gaza -- because this isn't the setting for a deep dive into policy.  She didn't exactly promise blood, tears, toil and sweat, but nobody expects an easy time, with the way ahead already slimed by Trump and his mob.  As we learned four years ago, winning isn't sufficient.  The path must also be cleared of violence and fuckery.  If I had a suggestion (which nobody asked for) it would be, less about being a prosecutor and more about being a vice president, acquainted with the world and its perils.

Now that it's over, can I ask -- what the hell was that business with the panoramic camera?

*J.D. Vance has never fucked a couch.
