Abrile sempre!
This is the fiftieth anniversary of Portugal's Carnation Revolution, an event virtually unknown in the US and certainly not likely to distract us from our troubles. It's worth reading and thinking about as we contemplate the dissolution of our own freedoms. The Portuguese do not take these things for granted.
The right of the people peaceably to assemble, for instance, is everywhere under violent attack. Demonstrators at the University of Texas, Austin, were met by mounted police with truncheons and the risible order, "I command you in the name of the people of the state of Texas to disperse." His one good deed behind him, Christian nationalist Mike Johnson showed up at Columbia to declare, "This is dangerous. This is not the First Amendment, this is not free expression." In other words, this is not January 6 at the Capitol. He urged students to "go back to class. Stop wasting your parents' money." It's not their parents who will have to repay the $67,000 a year Columbia charges.
And of course Trump had to chime in: "Joe Biden would say that he ran because of Charlottesville....Charlottesville is like a 'peanut' compared to the riots and anti-Israel protests that are happening all over our Country RIGHT NOW." Biden "HATES Israel and Hates the Jewish people." (That will alarm the Jews who hold powerful positions in his administration.) "The problem is that he HATES the Palestinians even more, and he just doesn't know what to do!?!?" So now we know what the morons and their spokesman think.
Biden hates Israel so much that he has endangered his re-election and thus American democracy by continuing to arm the Netanyahu regime. Netanyahu would like nothing better than the re-installation of his fellow authoritarian fascist in Washington. As with Putin, Trump would tell him to "do whatever the hell you want." He's a lover of the Jewish people, except the disloyal ones who refuse to vote for him. By way of thanks, Israel's Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli said, "If I were an American citizen...I'd vote for Trump and Republicans."
Who ordered the chilled revenge? North America's Building Trade Unions, representing the thousands of subcontractors and construction workers Trump has screwed for half a century, endorsed Joe Biden for president. Bon appetit!
Trump got a break in Arizona -- he's only an unindicted co-conspirator in the plot to replace the real 2020 electors with lifelike Republican facsimiles. The indicted include former party chair Kelli Ward and her husband, Turning Point USA clown Tyler Bowyer, state senators Jake Hoffman and Anthony Kern, and Christina Bobb, who runs the RNC's "election integrity" operation. In her announcement attorney general Kris Mayes said, "I will not allow American democracy to be undermined -- it's too important." And the Republican in the legislature can pound sand, she did not add.
After years of being taunted about his size and his disloyalty, Chris Christie vowed never to vote for Trump again. (You thought I was going to say Bill Barr.) Now he's pouting because Joe Biden never called to thank him, since his vote can make all the difference in New Jersey. Maybe it's because he also said, "President Biden, in my view, is past the sell-by date. Seriously, look at him." So you don't get a call or a cookie, Chris, you self-important bozo. The man is busy.
Can this be right? George Santos raised exactly zero dollars in the first three months of the year? Of course that's what he told the Federal Election Commission, and he has been known to lie before. At any rate he has ended his run for the New York first, vowing, "I'll be back." And we'll be here, George. When does your trial start?
Congratulations to Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman. Your lawsuit has bankrupted conspiracy emporium Gateway Pundit. Even if you never see a dime, America owes you a monument.
