 Bob Menendez has yet to be indicted but the verdict is in:  Resign from the Senate today, say Governor Phil Murphy, Dick Durbin, Cory Booker, AOC and any number of other important people.  

Let me see...George Santos, criminally indicted and free on bail, still in Congress?  Ken Paxton, survived impeachment but under multiple criminal indictments, still attorney general of Texas?  The most corrupt judge of all time Clarence "Boss Tweed" Thomas, still on the Supreme Court?  Alongside the second-most corrupt judge, Sam Alito?  So what's different about Menendez?

Oh, right.  He's a Democrat.  And Democrats, like Caesar's wife, must be above reproach.

The softball game must end, because the fascists are not playing slow-pitch.  Cornered, they rear on their hind legs and utter death threats.  No need to go full Trump but at least fight back.

If Menendez resigns, Governor Murphy should name Al Franken as his replacement.  This would redress a terrible wrong and enhance the Senate.  "But he doesn't live in New Jersey!"  Well, Herschel Walker didn't live in Georgia.  Mehmet Oz didn't live in Pennsylvania.  It looks like Tommy Tuberville lives in Florida now.  There's plenty of time for Franken to establish residence in the Garden State before next year's primary, if he wants to be more than a caretaker Senator.  Meanwhile he's a strong voice to complement John Fetterman, who can't do everything, and compensate for weaklings like Dick Durbin and the useless Manchinema.  Never criminally indicted.  Not even close.  Franken's offense was to horse around on a USO trip before he got into politics.  At 72 he'd be one of our younger leaders.  He knows the Senate's weird arcana, he hates Ted Cruz, he's tanned, rested and ready (and if you recognize that phrase, you're probably reading this in an assisted living facility).

Enough of this we-follow-the-rules, they-run-amok crap.  Welcome back, Senator Franken.

 With Trump and his silk pajamas in recess, the political story of the day must be  Robert F.
