The blogpost of laughter and forgetting

The activities of the ICEstapo rarely provide cause for anything but disgust, so I won't call this good news, but there is a kind of grim satisfaction in this one.  Bruna Ferreira was arrested for overstaying her visa and a previous arrest for battery.  She is the mother of an 11-year-old son whose father is Michael Leavitt.  Yes, brother of White House liar Karoline Leavitt.  The mother of Karolyin's nephew is facing deportation to Brazil.  I can't wait for her to be asked about it on Monday.

She will be busy denying all the facts in this New York Times article about her boss's physical and cognitive decline.  Of course Trump has already rebutted it by calling one of the authors, Katie Rogers, "ugly both inside and out."  (Rogers is white, so he didn't add "low IQ.")  It's hard to come up to his high standards of female acceptability without extensive plastic surgery.

The Thanksgiving Proclamation dropped today and it's not as vituperative as I expected -- he drained off most of the hate in his attack on the Times article.  It mentions God a lot, describes the economy as "roaring back" and hails "a new era of peace...sweeping around the world."  You know, horseshit.

In another blow to the tourism industry, international visitors to our national parks will be hit with a surcharge of $170 for a total of $250, while the fee for Americans remains at $80.  This is on top of the $250 "visa integrity fee" imposed in October.  Here are some Canadian parks you may wish to visit instead:

MAGA has decided that Pam Bondi is not getting the job (revenge and retribution) done.  Both Michael Flynn and Laura Ingraham want Trump to RELEASE THE KRAKEN by replacing her with Sidney Powell, the lawyer and conspiracy aficionada who was notably unsuccessful in getting the 2020 election overturned.  Powell is on probation after pleading guilty to conspiring to interfere with election duties in Georgia (2023) so confirmation may be a problem.  But I'll bet she still rocks the leopard top.

Kash Patel's paramour Alexis Wilkins has a few hyperpatriotic songs on YouTube but seems to be better known for suing people, mostly for accusing her of working for Israeli intelligence.  This tends to happen when you rile the far-right reaches of Blogenheim where everybody has a gun.  Patel decided she needs full-time protection from an elite FBI SWAT team.  He was enraged when they accompanied her to an NRA shindig in Georgia and then left.  (Maybe they were called to an actual emergency.)  Now he's getting heat from the sane and balanced Candace Owens:  "Kash Patel has to step down.  This is excruciatingly embarrassing.  He's a teenager in love representing the Federal government."  Happy Thanksgiving, James Comey!

Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) isn't even pretending that the invasion of Venezuela is about drug smugglers disguised as fishermen.  "Venezuela for the American oil companies will be a field day because it will be more than a trillion dollars in economic activity...The Venezuelans have the largest reserves of oil in the world, more than Saudi Arabia.  This is going to be a windfall for us when it comes to fossil fuels."  Uh, Congresswoman, ix-nay on the oil-ay.  We invaded Iraq loudly denying it had anything to do with oil.  Get out your copy of Our Oil Is Under Your Sand:  Arbusto Oil and the Bush Foreign Policy.

You probably could have guessed this was coming:  Trump wants to name the Republican Party after himself.  Rejecting Junior's suggestion of "Trumpublican" he seems to be favoring "TEPUBLICAN" or possibly "TPUBLICAN."  How about TRUMPUGLIES?

Crom only knows what he has in mind for the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool, or as he calls it "this Biden filth and incompetence."  The Chicago River is dyed green every St. Patrick's Day -- can you turn water gold?

And in places lucky enough not to be America -- I'll just quote from Forbes:  "Countries with state subsidies for abortion, transgender-friendly policies for children, hate speech laws and affirmative action policies will now be considered to be violating human rights under rules imposed at the State Department that will impact how the agency conducts its annual Human Rights Report."  Prison conditions in El Salvador?  Freedom of assembly in China?  No problem!  Slavery?  It's in the Bible!  Having this on your phone?

Treason.

States' rights?  It depends.  Trump is requesting -- no, he doesn't request, he demands -- that felon Tina Peters be transferred to federal custody (Club Ghislaine in suburban Houston, no doubt) but Colorado isn't budging.

I suppose he could order the National Guard to invade Colorado and free her before some activist Obama-appointed judge can interfere.  Every day a little more tyranny, a little more violence.

I need a few days to decide what I'm thankful for.  If I think of anything we'll meet back here.  Meanwhile here's Stratford, Ontario, a place I have visited.
