The king in Queens
Trump demands that Arthur Ashe Stadium be renamed for Bill Tilden instead of "woke DEI" player. No, but it's one of the few complaints he didn't air after being booed at the US Tennis final. He was there at the invitation of Jean-Frederic Dufour, CEO of Rolex, who may have an interest in rolling back tariffs on Switzerland, where his already overpriced wrist adornments are made. Among the people who paid their way in, most booed loudly at the first glimpse of orange, but broadcasters had been ordered to censor these disloyal subjects, so they did.
("What's that smell?" "Quiet, you'll wake him up.")
Trump neither likes nor understands tennis. What he enjoys is making other people wait while he waddles to his box, especially people like Stephen Colbert and Bruce Springsteen. Tom Hanks was not there, so his abuse came separately:
Don't be surprised if he campaigns to have Hanks's Oscars retracted and given to Scott Baio instead. No doubt we'll soon be hearing about the Emmy won by the Colbert show.
But Trump's "mind" was on higher things. The Trump family Bible, the one with the uncut pages, has been donated to the Museum of the Bible. He took advantage of the occasion to compare the MOOB favorably with the Smithsonian, where they still dwell on the unattractive facts of American history instead of celebrating innovations like the cotton gin and Tang, and the way all those people who used to occupy this continent just disappeared into the mists to make room for Europeans.
Trump brought along one of his disciples, Scott Turner, the -- let me check -- Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. I keep forgetting his name because his main achievement so far has been to appropriate a building in Virginia large enough to provide parking for his five cars. Turner thanked Jesus for "anointing and appointing" Trump, who "prioritizes prayer." He's a Baptist preacher who's "morally opposed" to federal housing assistance programs, but you probably expected that.
After a weekend of good deeds, what reward? Well, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the $83.3 million verdict against him for defaming E. Jean Carroll. This is separate from the original $5 million verdict for sexual abuse, which they upheld in June. Eli, eli, lama sabachthani! And don't forget to deduct the cost of the Bible from his income tax. I'll be curious to see how Roberts's Rogues get him out of this one, considering he was out of office when he sexually abused her in that dressing room. Maybe the Bondi Department will charge Carroll with something.
Turner may not be the most massively useless member of the Klown Kabinet. This is the Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright.
In a demonstration of wasted energy, Elon Musk tried to explain storage batteries to the doofus, even providing a video. Tragically, DOE is also in charge of everything nuclear.
"If it's a hoax, why was Donald Trump an informant to a hoax?"
When Thomas Massie (R-KY) makes more sense than all the pundits and "journalists" when it comes to Epstein, we are in deep trouble. Last week Mike Johnson tried to defend his master by claiming that Trump was an FBI informant against Epstein, then changed his mind when even Massie could see the obvious absurdity. Is he sticking to the story that Epstein was thrown out of Lago de Mer for being disgusting, and not for poaching an underage "spa employee"? Stay tuned!
And speaking of Trump hospitality, Gavin Newsom strikes again;
Christian nationalist Michael Knowles has found a unique way to defend Trump (and Epstein) and slander their accusers. He does arithmetic. "Of the one thousand victims of Epstein, 36 of them were underage. That's the highest number I can find...That means that one thousand or more of the so-called Jeffrey Epstein victims were not underage. They were young women." I didn't say he did arithmetic well. "So in that case they were prostitutes who were hired to do a job." And it's well known that prostitutes can't be trusted. So...hoax? "I guess we're all victims when we engage in sin in any way." Trafficking? Joe Biden was the trafficker, because he allowed women to claim asylum. Everyone is a victim, so no one is a victim. Except Trump, the anointed, who is more victimized than anyone else in the whole history of the world. Just ask him.
The blood moon, as seen from Sydney. I'd like to think it's warning us not to put a nuclear reactor there.
