Saying the sooth

There is a character in Julius Caesar called the Soothsayer who famously warns Caesar to "Beware the ides of March."  He is, of course, bang on.  Never gets any credit, never reveals the source of his information, we don't even know his real name.  Hi, glad to meet you.

Save the date:  On March 28 Robert Kennedy, Jr., will reveal the name of his running mate from a list of two.  Jesse "The Body" Ventura has experience as a competent governor of Minnesota so Kennedy will undoubtedly choose the other, quarterback and conspiracist Aaron Rodgers, because he is "battle-tested" and "our appeal is to young people."  First, football is not war, no matter what some coaches and commentators say.  Second, I think he means "ignorant people."  In addition to opposing medical science and believing the Sandy Hook children never existed (which he now denies), Rodgers asserts that "some of the noises from the dolphins when they're love-making, the frequency of that is actually healing to the body."  It's not clear whether he means the marine animals or the Miami Dolphins, but it's less bizarre than his notions about sun block and skin cancer.  Why not swap and put Rodgers at the top of the ticket?

Climate activists have decided that the only way to get their message over is to be as annoying as possible, flinging soup at paintings and throwing red powder around the National Archives.  Their latest weapon is irony, as in disrupting a performance of Ibsen's An Enemy of the People.  The play concerns a doctor who tries to get his town's lucrative spa closed before its bacteria-laden water can sicken people. See?  Stockmann is an early climate activist who is despised by his neighbors!  Last year some Just Stop Oil protesters interrupted Les Miserables in London but I don't suppose it had the same impact.  The entire Ibsen audience went out and began buying electric cars, turning down thermostats and shaming people who were eating meat, not even waiting for intermission.  Didn't they?  No.  They didn't.  Do you know what Broadway tickets cost?

It's going to be a slog but I feel certain Trump and his gang can spin this as an example of "migrant crime":  Michelle and Kenneth Mack were running a shoplifting enterprise out of their San Diego mansion, allegedly stealing $8 million worth of high-end cosmetics which they sold on Amazon.  Surely at least one of the thieves was undocumented.  After all, the operation covered 21 California counties and took the combined efforts of the state justice department, Highway Patrol, DHS, the Postal Inspection Service and private security to bring down.

Texas passed a law requiring adult sites to verify the ages of users, so Pornhub disabled its site in the state.  Thanks, Ken and Angela Paxton, now nobody can fantasize about being anywhere but Texas.

In the UK traffic is predicted to be an absolute bloody nightmare this weekend as the much-used M25 motorway is closed for roadwork.  Travelers are advised by Jonathan Wade of National Highways to "decorate the bathroom or something," which is not a euphemism but should be.

Unhappy with the choice of "Vladimir Putin" or "Nobody," some Russian voters expressed their preference by vandalizing and in one case firebombing a polling station.  I suppose Putin supporters in this country have already taken note.  For example...

Mark "MLK on steroids" Robinson may not be the most appalling life-form competing for office this year, even in North Carolina.  Meet "conservative activist" Michele Morrow, who hates public schools ("socialism centers") but wants to be in charge of them.  Her colorful record includes calling for the execution of Barack Obama, wanting to "KILL all TRAITORS!!!" (a reference to President-Elect Biden), and generally murdering Ilhan Omar, Roy Cooper, Chuck Schumer, Andrew Cuomo, Anthony Fauci, you know, the usual.  Conspiracy theories?  All of them, please.  Anger management issues?  Well, I guess so!  Oh, North Carolina, why are you like this?

I see we're light on Trump content today.  Fine.  Enjoy the weekend.
