Merrily we roll along
"Survivor" contestant-turned-Kentucky state rep Nick Wilson has introduced a bill to make first-cousin sex legal. Henceforth the Bluegrass State shall be known as Kinfucky.
The richest country in history remains unable to fund its government for more than a couple of weeks because of reasons. Its Congress passed another continuing resolution which should keep the lights on and the national parks open until March 1, while dooming its Speaker of the House, who declined to join his Freedom Caucus in aiding and comforting the nation's enemies. Meanwhile the President was heard to say, "Didn't I just sign this? Maybe I am getting forgetful."
Matthew Brackley, a Republican candidate for the Maine legislature, has pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer on January 6, 2021. On May 14 he will learn how long he has to be a hostage.
Congressional Republicans cancelled proxy voting last year because it was introduced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But new mom and known hairpin Anna Paulina Luna Livia Plurabelle wants to re-institute it for new moms, so they can bond with their babies and recover. On the same day she demanded that children be separated from their parents at the southern border "until we can confirm if they are the actual biological parents" and the children are not being "trafficked." Consistency is for Marxist leftist liberals.
Case in point: the forced birthers, who want to ban abortion, contraception and in vitro fertilization. Senator Tammy Duckworth, whose two children were conceived through IVF, is co-sponsoring the Access to Family Building Act to guarantee fertility care to patients despite state laws. It's the tired old "a fertilized egg is a person" routine promoted by some religions, getting in the way again.
Japan proudly announced the arrival of this thing on the moon, but its batteries are not charging and it's running out of power. Maybe they used Tesla batteries, which are struggling in the extreme cold temperatures back here. Maybe it's the Reynolds Wrap.
As to the cold: the next time some fool says "Where's all the global warming? It's seven below!" direct them to the Central American drought which has forced a 36 percent cut in crossings through the Panama Canal and water restrictions for Panamanians. It's easier than trying to explain the difference between climate and weather for the fiftieth time.
Two Asian countries are flinging missiles at each other and they're probably not the ones you're thinking of. Pakistan attacked the bases of Baluch militants in Iran, two days after these guys did the same in Pakistan. We probably don't need any more of these groups, as Islamic State claims credit for killing 90 people at the Qassem Soleimani memorial service in Iran and the UK and US fire back at Houthis in Yemen. The Houthis say they plan to keep on attacking Red Sea shipping, so that's another canal that's not running optimally. Back where the current round of madness began in October, Israel continues to target hospitals in Gaza and has destroyed Al-Israa University after using it as a jail. More than 22,000 Palestinians have been killed. Opposition to the war continues to grow, with Bernie Sanders and only eleven other senators calling on the State Department to investigate human rights abuses in Gaza.
I can't help but wonder about the impetus for a disturbing article in today's Guardian which graphically describes the rape and murder of Israeli women by Hamas on October 7. Nobody disputes this, least of all Hamas, who proudly made videos of their crimes like Trump insurrectionists inside the Capitol. We have known about it since October. The families of these women and of those still held hostage don't need to see their names in the paper. Who decided this was the moment to cool anger at the 22,000 deaths by reiterating the justification for them? It sounds more like the New York Post than the Guardian.
